NATIONAL MEDIA RELEASE

(New York) - The prestigious PR Week Awards 2001 named George Allen's campaign for U.S. Senate as the "Political Campaign of the Year."  The award was given last night in front of over 1,000 guests at Pier 60 in Manhattan which included many of the leading public relations professionals in the nation and the world.

George Allen's campaign topped finalists which included the campaigns for Senator Clinton (who received an honorable mention), Senator Cantwell, Senator Carnahan, Senator Carper, Rep. Simmons and Senator Stabenow.

The Political Campaign of the Year award is given to recognize the behind-the-scenes consultant firm or communications team which helped win the election campaign of a public official.  As well as ads, the judges paid special attention to the PR strategy and tactics including research, media relations implementation, plus grassroots and grasstops initiatives.

John McLaughlin and Associates was proud to be a part of Senator Allen's winning campaign and grateful to be recognized as part of his successful team which included:  Stevens, Reed, Curcio & Co.; Jay Timmons; Chris LaCivita, campaign manager; Kenny Klinge; Ray Allen; Tim Murtaugh, press secretary.

The Political Campaign of the Year Award was sponsored by MWW Group.  The panel of judges for these awards was chaired by Howard J. Rubenstein, and included Jennifer Duffy, The Cook Report; Ed Grefe, political consultant; Stu Rothenberg, The Rothenberg Report; and Steve Lillienthal, PR Week, among many other public relations experts.

PR Week praised the Allen campaign with their award, saying that "the ease with which George Allen grinned on election night belied the hard work and smart thinking which enabled him to become the only Republican challenger ousting a sitting Democratic senator in the 2000 elections."  …[A]s one judge said, it was "a model all around effort."
